19 Apr Trust and Obey
Several weeks ago on Sunday evenings I tuned in to watch The Bible series on The History Channel. In their own words they made an attempt to “remain true to the spirit of the book.” While there was some artistic license taken, I enjoyed watching the biblical stories come to life. The History Channel programming does not validate the biblical accounts, for Scripture is the very Word of God, is truth, and contains life itself. However, The History Channel provided a medium for creativity to be expressed in a way that allowed our imaginations to connect with stories we often read. As I watched, I was reminded of how sometimes God will ask us to do things we don’t understand and the only way to full understand is to obey. Oswald Chambers once said, “Beware of reasoning about God’s Word—obey it.” The challenge we have as believers is to live each day choosing to trust and obey because we know that God is sovereign over all and His ways are best. The promise for us as we trust is seen in Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” We may not always be able to understand the reasoning or see the path, but as we walk in obedience we can walk in peace. Has God called you to do something that you’ve been hesitating to do because of a lack of understanding or due to fear? Choose to obey as you pursue God’s best!
